This century-old log cabin was built by early Western Pioneers in the beautiful Red Deer River valley. Over the years it has been updated while still maintaining its original charm. It is not the Plaza Hotel, which is probably the point. It is comfortable, unassuming and allows you to reconnect with your beautiful Western surroundings.
Watch the sun rise from the Lodge deck while you sit on locally-made wicker furniture. Enjoy your fellow travellers over a delicious Western dinner or gather around the wood-fire stove and share stories and cowboy poetry well into the evening. If you are lucky, you may even find a hidden compartment in the wall where one of the original occupants used to hide his whiskey!
It is not every day you get to stay in a place with such an amazing story. This cabin was built in 1903 with logs that escaped from a huge boom 250 miles up-river. Each log was then hauled to its present site by horse and buckboard – an incredibly tedious task. Travelling up the Red Deer river today, you will still see log cabins made in the same manner, from the same time.
